There was hope at the start of the year with the rumour of an impending rollout of vaccines for Covid-19. However, make no mistake that Ireland is still fighting hard against the third wave of infections following a steep rise in cases and sadly, fatalities. Hospitals around the country have been overwhelmed, and staff stretched thin. Coronavirus cases are at an all-time high and continue to rise daily.
Tallaght University Hospital recently allowed a small crew from RTE to film inside the Covid wards, where the struggle is becoming increasingly more difficult to withstand. This brief insight into the daily lives of healthcare professionals and their struggles should come as a stark warning to those who downplay the continuing severity of this deadly virus outbreak.
